They say that the best inventions are born out of necessity. This is the story of how our one of a kind products were inspired by life's unexpected hurdles, and hand crafted through a mother's endless love.
As a family, we created this business out of a passion for natural healing and the wholehearted belief in the powers of herbal therapy. As a mother, I've dedicated myself to finding natural ways to bring my family relief in times they need it most. I've always preferred to rely on the fruits of nature for healing, as I find they not only bring relief to the source, but also find a way to soothe the soul.
Naturally Nurture was born with our second son, Christian. He was born with severe right heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. He spent 33 days in The Children's Hospital Of Philadelphia, with 7 of those days on an ECMO life support circuit.
While Christian was on ECMO he suffered two major strokes. He also went into acute kidney failure and suffered countless seizures.
Our attending physician, an 80 year old doctor who had been walking those halls for 50 years, told us to "prepare for the worst and hope for the best." That our son had one of the most unique and critical heart conditions that he had ever seen. He told us that he had only seen a heart condition like Christian's twice in his entire career and both of those babies unfortunately didn't make it.
In the end, after genetic testing results finally came out, we found out that Christian has a very rare genetic microdeletion within his 6q chromosome. This is what caused his heart condition and why his condition was so unique.
After Christian's second stroke, we were told that if he survived his heart condition, there was a good chance that he might not ever be able to walk. The part of his brain that controls the motor skills on his entire right hand side of his body had been greatly affected by the stroke. That his condition would end to being anywhere from having a severe limp, or he could possibly end up in a wheelchair. It would be up to Christian to show us someday.
All we could do was pray, hope for the best and give our little boy all of the love in the world. We kept our faith strong, watching over him while he was sedated and connected to machines, not knowing if we ever would even get the chance to hold our baby boy someday. Then struggling with the dark cloud that had just swept over, of now not knowing whether or not Christian would even be able to use his right side when he woke up.
33 days later, Christian was taken off life support and we walked out of that hospital holding a living miracle.
Christian came off of life support and his heart began beating normally on its own. He showed no neurological or physical signs of having a stroke. He had a massive part of his brain that had died in the stroke, but the effects of the stroke on his physical body were nowhere to be seen. He was cognitively acting perfectly normal. He was truly our living miracle.
My son put me on a path to spending the rest of my days being eternally grateful to God. Forever grateful for the blessing of being able to raise my son. I was forever changed as a person through this journey. I found an incredible faith in God and discovered new strengths in motherhood that I never even knew I had.
From that moment on, I knew that I would do whatever it takes to stay home with our son and be able to give him all of the extra love and attention that he deserves. I would never take one single moment with him for granted.
After Christian came home from the hospital we dealt with some unexpected after-effects of him being in the NICU. Everything from yeast rashes from being on IV antibiotics, to severe reflux from being intubated for so long. We even struggled with cradle cap, from not being able to be truly bathed while he was intubated.
Christian's reflux was severe and made him absolutely miserable. We went through prescription reflux medications that did nothing to help him, and only ended up making things even worse. After a week on the reflux meds, Christian had completely stopped eating and we had to make the decision to take him off of the reflux meds.
During this time, we also were also struggling with yeast rashes. We went through two rounds of prescription antifungal creams that barely put a dent into his healing. Strong antifungal creams that have horrible side effects on the adrenal system. Even with the prescription creams, his rashes spread from his neck down to his diaper and continued to get worse.
I ended up discovering a passion to begin making my own herbal salves and natural healing products for him, and never looked back again. We also began using homeopathy for his reflux. My husband and entire family could tell you that they began seeing an entirely new peaceful, content, and rash-free baby after that. It was truly something amazing to witness.
With that, Naturally Nurture was born.
I decided to turn decades worth of passion on natural healing, and years worth of research and knowledge on herbalism into a business. A business that would finally allow me to stay home and raise our two sons. A business that would give me the gift of never truly working a day in my life, because I truly love what I do.
My idea for this company began as a natural line of products for babies, and then grew entirely into its own entity from there. What you see here is my final culmination of all the love and passion that I've put into every single product that my heart drew me to make.
By the grace of God, Christian is thriving today. He continues to defy all of the odds stacked against him. With every follow-up at the Children's Hospital, Christian brings new milestones that he's mastered and continues to amaze the Neurology and Cardiology teams with his progress and how much he's overcome. Our son can only be described as a pure miracle. If you ever have doubts, I'm here to tell you that the power of prayer is a very real thing.
It truly is a family operation here at Naturally Nurture. Our older son, Richie, absolutely loves being a CEO in "Mommy & Richie's Business." From helping pour oil, mixing salves, concocting experiments, hole punching, label cutting, bubble wrap packing, Richie's got his hands in the love that we put into every single one of our products.
At Naturally Nurture, we do all of the oil infusions ourselves to ensure only the highest quality ingredients. Our products are derived from organic oils infused with organic herbs that have long histories of therapeutic effects.
No ingredient or herb is chosen at random here in our products. Each herb is chosen for its natural powers of soothing relief it can bring for each specific cause. They are designed to comfort your mind, body and soul right where you need it most.
All of our organic herbs are infused slowly in warm oil for 7 days, and then stored away from sunlight to continue their cold oil extraction process for the next 6-8 weeks. We do this to allow Mother Nature time to work in all of her beauty, without ever rushing the process on the stove.
A special flower infusion is then left in every bottle. A special little gift of nature that keeps on giving the longer it's kept. We like to call it a little piece of Nature's love in every bottle. ❤️
Our goal is to bring you comfort through boosting your body's own natural ability to heal itself. Each product that we offer has been made with organic herbs and ingredients that have been specifically chosen for their long histories of therapeutic benefits. We are happy to help you find the relief you are looking for and if you are not totally satisfied with our products and services, please reach out and let us know and we will do whatever it takes to make it right.
Our herbal products and infusions have been inspired based on scientific research and peer reviewed studies on the medicinal qualities of those herbs. Please feel free to browse through our list of some of the studies highlighting the therapeutic benefits of the herbs and oils in our products. More detailed lists of studies can be found within each of our individual product descriptions.
